Enthused Thursday: Skyfall

It has been a while since we've seen Bond on screen, not since 2008's Quantum of Solace, and recently, news on the most recent film, ominously named Skyfall, has been reaching the public. From what I've seen, this installment in the Bond franchise looks to correct the shortcomings of it's predecessor, and excel in every way. I  scope out the new Bond film after the jump.
Casino Royale was the film that completely revamped the franchise, showcasing a steely cold and stoic Bond, transforming the character and taking it in directions it never has been taken before. Casino Royale was intriguing and action-packed, and made for an amazing debut of the new age in the franchise.
Quantum of Solace, while still fantastic, in my opinion dragged itself down in places with a too-heavy emphasis on action, where some could have been devoted to plot development. From what I've seen so far, I think Skyfall will deliver on both story and action. Little is still known about the upcoming film and it's plot, and thankfully so. Even the teaser trailer for the film gave nothing away, only dropping a few hints here and there, obviously focusing intently on a trigger word, 'Skyfall'.
What is known about the film is that it will focus on the past of M, a character who has been rather shrouded in secrecy for most of the franchise, and the fact that this film will delve into her past life has piqued my interest. The film also continues to enter into some of the original Bond territory, as he continues to become the iconic character more and more. Skyfall will be the first of Craig's 'Modern Bond' movies to feature the tech-savvy gadget-guy Q. In Skyfall Q is to be played by Ben Whishaw, who also starred with Craig in the film that got him the Bond role, Layer Cake.
The locales of the feature film are also gorgeous, and take Bond to some new locations as well as some old iconic locales. The trailer shows Bond in Shanghai, which I'm certain will prove to be an interesting setting, as well as Istanbul, a place where the Bond franchise is more than at home.
Skyfall looks to be fantastic for many reasons, and I can only hope it delivers on all the bold directions the film seems to be pursuing. Craig is a fantastic Bond, and if Skyfall is as good as it looks to be, I look forward to seeing Craig continue to carry on the role.
