Trailer Tuesday: Wreck-It Ralph & The Watch

It's Trailer Tuesday again! Luckily this week we have a couple new exciting trailers to talk about. Today I'll be talking about the new alien-comedy The Watch, as well as Disney's new 8 Bit influenced film, Wreck-It Ralph, all after the jump.
The new Disney film stars John C. Reilly as Wreck-It Ralph, a bad guy who has tired of his menial task of smashing and wrecking, and failing to his 'good guy' counterpart Fix-It Felix (voiced by Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock). In the trailer we see Ralph become distraught, and he heads to a villain support group called 'Bad-Anon', with the slogan, "One Game At a Time". This, for me, was the point I really got interested.
Along with Wreck-It Ralph, other licensed baddies are receiving therapy as well, Dr. Eggman, Bowser, and a slew of other 'bad guys' sit around trying to lose their stigmas, in a session that is mediated by Clyde, one of the not-so-friendly ghosts from Pac-Man. I found this truly exciting, as other movies that had tried to appeal to a similar audience by looking at the video game world crashed and burned (See Spy Kids 3D), because they failed to introduce glimpses to the outside gaming world.
From here on I felt the trailer only got better, as Ralph set off for 'Game Central Station' (after stowing his belongings away safely on the Pac-Man luggage conveyor of course). In Ralph's attempt to shake the bad guy stigma, he sets off game jumping through various worlds, and winds up in Hero's Duty, (an obvious meld of genre favorites such as Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Mass Effect) where he meets a hardened Sergeant voiced by Jane Lynch, before moving on to Sugar Rush, a candy themed kart racer. I have no doubts that Jane Lynch will be funny as ever, and I think this more Pixar-ish looking film from Disney could be worth gathering up your arcade quarters to view. I can only wait to see how this one plays out, and I think this could be one of the first video-game based films that doesn't result in a game over.
I also viewed the new Red-Band trailer for The Watch which looks to be an interesting new foray into the alien invasion genre. (The film, originally entitled 'Neighbor Watch' has now been re-branded to focus more on the alien invasion as opposed to their roles as watchmen, after a tragic incident in Florida caused by a neighborhood watch volunteer.) I think the film certainly has a shot at being entertaining, and it would seem difficult for a comedy with this many stars to fall flat.
The trailer starts out with the four unlikely heroes of Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, and Richard Ayoade attempting to spot aliens in their local grocery store after discovering that there is an impending alien invasion at hand, and the results are rather fruitful. They also later get their hands on a weapon that appears to be a miniaturized version of the laser that destroyed the White House in Independence Day, and we can only hope the motley gang is able to put it to better use after making a milk shake out of a cow. The movie looks promising, and I can only hope that they don't use up all the funny bits and quips in the trailer as appears to be the trend with comedies these days. Despite that, I think The Watch looks to be a fresh new take on the genre meld that worked so well in Men In Black, and I think it could work again.
